Mental Health, Wellbeing & Pastoral Care
We have a dedicated pastoral team, managed by our dedicated Head of Inclusion, who proactively supports families within school; working with external agencies where required, to ensure that children are happy and well-supported at Heaton Avenue.
Within this team, we have a Behaviour Support Worker who is on hand to support our pupils with their wellbeing and social, emotional and mental health.
Heaton Avenue are proud to have recently been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools Award. Mental health is a really important part of everyone's health and well-being. We are delighted to have been recognised for all the hard work our staff put in to ensuring Heaton Avenue is a safe and happy place for children to learn and achieve the best possible outcomes.
The award evidences that as a school, we promote positive mental health and teach children how to stay healthy. We recognise when children may experience difficulties with their mental health and respond to these needs with a wide range of support strategies including internal and external referrals.
We work closely with Northorpe Hall to ensure we are up to date with mental health & well-being initiatives and best practice. This includes accessing staff training and network meetings. We have also enrolled a member of staff in the DFE funded, Senior Mental Health Lead Training, to ensure that we can continue to improve our offer for our children, our staff and the community we serve. Should you require any further information then please get in touch with school.
